St. Benedict Middle School Ministry

The Edge Program

Our 6th, 7th and 8th graders participate in our EDGE program, from Life Teen.  Edge is a Catholic middle school youth ministry program, providing a safe and fun place for youth to find a solid Catholic community, and experience Jesus in a profound and personal way. EDGE resources speak to the physical, psychological, cognitive, relational and spiritual maturation of middle school youth. The resources present Catholic teaching in a way that young people can understand.

EDGE meets two Sundays per month. All EDGE sessions will take place at Taylor Lodge on the grounds of St. Benedict campus.

The Archdiocese of Atlanta is embarking on an exciting five-year transition for the Sacrament of Confirmation, moving the grade level from 10th grade down to 6th grade.

What is the goal? This shift aims to invite our youth into a deeper relationship with their faith at an earlier age. A cornerstone of this new process is increased parental involvement. We look forward to partnering with you as your children navigate their saint projects, service hours, and retreats.

What does this mean for your child? To ensure a smooth transition, we will be moving the target grade down incrementally each year. The core requirements remain consistent:

Preparation: Two consecutive years of active faith formation.

Requirements: Completion of all projects, service hours, and retreats as set forth by our Pastor.

2026–2027 School Year: Confirmation remains in the Spring for students in 10th grade and older.

The Transition (Beginning 2027–2028): We will begin lowering the eligibility age by one grade level each year. During this transition period, the Confirmation ceremony will move to the Fall.

2030–2031 School Year: The transition will be complete. 6th graders and older will be eligible for Confirmation, provided they have completed two years of faith formation.

Registration for our 2026-2027 school year opened April 27.

Our Edge Objectives

6th and 7th grade:  Our main objective is to create community amongst youth believers with fun, engaging, and moving content and speakers.  The content and activities for these students change every year.

8th Grade: Youth begin their 3-year sacramental preparation for their Confirmation during 8th grade. Our focus during EDGE for our 8th graders will be proclamation of the gospel message that all believers are called to share: The Kerygma. We will also dive into the Mass!

Annual EDGE retreat.
